A Haven Forged in the Middle Ages

The history of Gaycre traces its roots back over a thousand years. First placed under the protection of Benedictine monks, the hamlet became a strategic stronghold in the 14th century. During this troubled era, the site attracted many covetous eyes: brigands and “routiers” in the pay of the English occupied the area, before the Counts of Armagnac stepped in to secure the territory.

In the 15th century, the village was transformed with the construction of its manor house. But peace was short-lived: during the Wars of Religion, the area became the scene of intense conflicts

It was not until the early 18th century and the arrival of the Puel de Parlan family that Gaycre found serenity. It is from this era that the hamlet derives its colors and its emblem: the holm oak on a gold background, a symbol of strength and nature that still watches over the hamlet today.
